I was wondering if you might include on your website a tutorial for properly measuring a foot to knit a sock.  Maybe you could make a line drawing indicating exactly where the tape measure should go.  I have never knitted a sock with a loom before and never had to take measurements before and I'm not sure I'm doing it right.

The sock loom arrived yesterday and is every bit as well made as are all the Knittingboard products.  And the tutorial is a great help.  I was wondering for those who have used one before, what is your preferred knitting stitch?  Is it the flat stitch or is it the knit stitch?  Do you use the same stitch throughout the entire sock or do you use a different stitch for the heel?

Are you sure it is that size are you using the inches or cm side of measuring tape?

I am interested in seeing exactly where to place the measuring tape to get the proper measurement to calculate how many needles are needed to knit the sock.  I have since found a drawing on the internet but I thought it would be nice if the information could be available on this website to make it easier for those learning.

Karen,
I have just completed a pair of socks.  I used knit 1 purl 1 for about 1".  Then I did the knit stitch (as seen on the DVD) to complete the rest of the sock.  You would use the knit stitch for the heel and toe as well.  Makes a real nice heel and toe.  On measuring your foot, be sure to have a bare foot and a soft tape measure. Place your foot on the floor and measure around the widest part of the foot.  This would be at the base of your toes.   It is also the start of the ball of the foot.  Take that measurement and follow instructions of multiplying by 7 then take 15% of that total and subtract that from the total of measurement that you got after multiplying by 7.  If the widest part of your foot measured 8.5 inches x 7 for a total of 59.5.  Then 15% of that is 8.9 subtracted for 59.5 is 50.6.  You would then cast on 50-52 stitches.  Sorry I don't have a picture but maybe this will help.

Thanks for the help Sue.  If you don't mind my asking, how long did it take to knit the pair of socks?  Did you make up your own pattern?  I have begun a practice baby bootie but the DVD did not give a length for the leg and foot so I'll go on-line and see what I can find.

Karen,
It took me about 3 days (not working all the time) to complete a pair.  Guess you could say it was my own pattern.  I just looked at socks I had and went from there.  For a baby sock, consider the age of the child.  That may help.  Or take a tape measure to your local Walmart, Target or whatever and measure a baby sock.  Thats what I would do.  Right now I am working on a new pair of socks.  I like ankle high so I am making my own pattern.  I am also using a new yarn by Patons that is a stretch yarn.  I hope to post pictures when I am finished.  Wish me luck.  Post pictures of your socks.  If I can help further let me know.
