Easier Knitting

If you have large hands it can be difficult to wrap yarn around the needles on a loom. To feed yarn around the pins on an Authentic Knitting Board try a narrow yarn guide. I found that a great yarn guide can be made from brass tubing. I cut it about a 3 to 4 inch length, smooth out and polish the ends with steel wool, add a pencil gel clip to improve the grip, and have a great smooth guide. I use tubing of various diameters (1/8, & 3/16 ) and have the perfect guide for yarn. Aluminium tubing will also work, but it is not anywhere near as smooth as the brass. You can find small tubing at a hardware store or hobby shop. I have also found for me that a Knifty Knitter pick tool with the end in a small hook makes grabbing yarn easier.

You would be very handy to have around!! I make do with a empty ball-point tube, although they're not so easy to make smooth at the ends (at least the ones I get aren't!), but I wouldn't have the means to cut or smooth metal anyway. I tried plastic tubing (the stuff they use for home wine-making) but it wasn't rigid enough, so ball points have to do for the moment - unless Pat & Kim can come up with a better idea and we can buy it from this site!
Cheers

You can cut brass tubing with a heavy knife on a hard surface. You roll the tubing back and forth on the surface with the cutting edge of the knife pressing into the tubing.
