Hi
As I've just explained to Ruglan - most of our DK (double knitting)is a bit finer than your worsted weight which seems to be about the same as our Aran.  The trouble is, every manufacturer (over here in the UK anyway) seems to have a slightly different idea of what the thickness should be, which is probably why so many of us have trouble!  I'm crocheting hexagons at the moment in Aran weight for a 'patchwork' afghan & every time I use a different make of yarn, I have to change the size of my hook to get them the same size. It gets really annoying if you want to use some stash to put a stripe into something you're knitting and then find the yarn is thinner or thicker than your main colour!
I agree, we need a better system.  It used to be that a double strand of 4ply was the same as DK, double DK was the same as Aran & double Aran was the same as Chunky, but that seems to have gone out of the window - sorry!
Hope I've been a bit of help - or are you even more confused?
Cheers
Gwen
